Choosing the most appropriate graphical format for website development

Your option of file format to display graphics Design on your site will depend on the type of image you want to display (either a picture or drawing line), the screen and the picture quality of the destination. This article describes some of the advantages and limitations of the two the majority common graphics design formats used on the Internet - GIF and JPEG.

GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) Format
Often measured the most versatile of the two file formats, GIF image files are relatively small in size, will offer the capacity of regions transparent and give the basic functionality of animation.

By choosing to use the GIF file format, however, you should note that the image of the color palette is imperfect to a maximum of 256 colors. The compression algorithm used to reduce the size of GIF files also favors the images with large areas of the same color instead of separate colors for each pixel, as is common with the majority of photographic images. For most small photographic applications, however, simply GIF files very well.

Brilliant results can be achieved using GIF images to drawings and diagrams that do not exceed 256 colors. If you intend to use GIF images to display photographs, however, a publisher of quality image in order to achieve good results. An editor must offer image quality with precise control over the file of the color palette as you need to reduce the color depth of 256 color photographs. There are several methods used by the editors of image to reduce the depth of color - will have to choose a method that is suitable for the file you are working with and promotes the quality and size.

There are two versions of GIF files - the 87th and 89th version. Most image editors will give you a choice on the format. It is recommended, however, that choosing the file format of the 89th, where probable, as it also gives you the opportunity to found transparent areas of the image.

The images can also be stored in an interlaced format and no interlaced. The option you choose will depend on how you want to display the image on the screen while it is being downloaded from the Internet. If an image is stored in the interlaced format, priority will be given to display the full size image as soon as possible - as the download starts a low-quality, full-size version of the image indicates that improvement in excellence as the file download progresses. No interlaced GIF files, on the other hand draw the full picture quality from top to bottom. This means that while sections of the image that appears during the download are in total quality, visitors to the site must wait for the whole image to download until they can see in its entirety.

As mentioned earlier, the regions can be configured for transparent GIF files in the format the 89th through the appointment of one of the colors in the color palette to be as transparent. In other words, where the opaque color usually identifies the background that the image is put in place is marked. This is very useful for website developers, especially when not rectangular, the images should be placed at the top of a textured background. Small transparent images that are one by one pixel in size can also be used for precise positioning of the elements on a website. Simply use the <img> element of the element of the height and width = = size of the attributes of the image in any size non-intrusive owner of content that is needed.

Simple animation can be achieved using GIF files by alternating between multiple frames. The methods of rendering images as part of the animation, as well as the interval between the displays of each of the tables can also be specified.

JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group)
GIF images, as mentioned above are excellent options for displaying drawings and diagrams. However, lack of suitability for displaying high-resolution photos. This is where the JPEG file format takes over. It should be noted that, unlike the GIF file format, JPEG images to produce quality results of the photographs, diagrams and drawings but may lack detail in this format. It is also not possible to specify the regions transparent or encourage only JPEG files.

JPEG images with support for color palettes that contain several million colors, and therefore do not need to have reduced their depth of color. A detailed file compression algorithm is also part of the format, which lets you weigh the size of the file with the picture quality.

Other Formats
The GIF and JPEG file formats are just two of the most common graphics formats used on the Internet. They are supported across multiple operating systems, produce relatively small file sizes (which is very important for the development of web sites) and are very versatile. There are also other file formats used on the Internet. Although we were not very common in the past, their popularity is growing. The PNG file format, for example, is an alternative to the GIF files. PNG keep all files for information of color and use a compression algorithm that does not degrade the picture quality.
